Procedures
There are many options available today, from breast aumentation to liposuction to abdominoplastics. We examine you and your medical history to determine the best procedure, or combination procedures to reach your goals.
Facelift (Rhytidectomy): As we age, the skin subcutaneous tissue and underlying muscles of the lower face sag, producing folds and wrinkles. Those signs of aging are most apparent around the eyes, mouth, chin, jaw line and cheeks. Increasingly both men and women are seeking plastic surgery to correct the effects of aging. A facelift, or rhytidectomy procedure, involves gently stretching and the lifting of skin tissues while excess skin and fat are removed. Incisions are well hidden within or behind the hairline.
Forehead Lift: The "worry lines" which appear across the forehead often become an ever-present facial feature as we age. A forehead lift is similar to a facelift, permitting skin tissues to be stretched, lifted and trimmed to minimoze future wrinkles.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty): This procedure consists of removing the excess skin of the upper and/or lower eyelids that become loose and baggy with age. Puffiness is frequently the protrusion of the fat pads that can be removed or repositioned along with the sagging skin. Often it is preformed in conjunction with a facelift. The surgery involves a small scar on the skin: more often the lower lids are corrected through an incision made inside the lower lid.
Resurfacing: Through a wide variety of procedures, skin can be resurfaced and corrected or reduced wrinkles, lines, scars and blotchy pigmentation. Skin resurfacing can produce a smoother, cleaner and more rejuvenanted appearance. Two of the most commonly used techniques for resurfacing are laser surgery and micro-dermabrasion. Depending on the health of your skin, Parkway Plastic Surgeons will recommend a procedure for the best possible outcome.
Botox: Botox is most often used on the upper third area of the face. As a result of years of smiling and frowning, facial lines develop. Botox is injected to paralyze the nerves that cause the muscles to contract resulting in lines or wrinkles. Each injection may last for several months and the need for injections tends to decrease with time.
Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck): with age, pregnancy, weight gains and weight losses, the abdominal wall actually can become looser and the muscles spread apart. In abdominalplasty, the excess skin and fat is removed and the abdominal wall is actually tightened with sutures to restore the youthful abdominal contour. A mini abdominalplasty would be for the patient who has less skin excess, who will be well served by a smaller skin and fat resection, abdominal wall tightening, and liposuction of the upper abdomen.
Liposuction: This is the most popular procedure in the United States, with increasing numbers of men and women requesting it. The ideal patient has isolated pockets of fat resistant to weight loss and exercise, which can be shrunk by suctioning excess fat through small hollow tubes using inconspicuous, nearly invisible incisions. Liposuction can be applied in any part of the body, but is most popular on the abdomen, the thighs, the male breasts, and the neck.
Breast Augmentation: This is the second most requested procedure for women in the US. We use saline implants to achieve larger, natural looking breasts. This is particularly usefule after childbearing when the top of the breast tends to become flatter as the breast gland shifts lower. We frequently combine augments with mastopexy (breast lift) when the areola position has changed with time, or there is an excess of skin from either childbearing or weight fluctuations. We also are on the protocol study for silicone gel implants if the indications are present.
Mastopexy (Breast Lift): We use a variety of techniques as it is appropriate to your particular breast shape. Having a variety of techniques allows us to give our patients the minimal scars possible while achieving the youthful contour they desire.
Reduction Mammaplasty (Breast reduction): Just as nature sometimes doesn't give us enough, she also can gift us with too much. The satisfaction rate of breast reduction patients both for aesthetics and for alleviation of shoulder and back pain is very high. Again, we have an armamentarium of several techniques to allow us to achieve the reduction desired by the patient, with a minimum of scarring.
